I am 37yo, live in Erie, PA, and have been writing poetry since I was eight years old.  This is the first time my poetry has made it into a major publication.  I have four children and own a restaurant with my husband, Michael. It has a varied menu which can be found at www.myspace.com/papajoes. I have a BA in Philosophy, and plan to go back to school when the children are grown.  I also moderate the discussion forums at EerieRadio.com, which hosts a podcast that focuses on the paranormal, something that has always been of interest to me.

"Born of Fire and Water"

I made you in images
thrown into chaos
I held you before me
declaring you perfect.
Hellfire can't touch you
whirlpools can't fetch you
You Leo-you wretch, you!
With Cancer, I etched you.
I balanced your sizzle
with ripples and drizzle
Content in your making
my heart almost breaking
I let go.
Your father I gave you
Your mother I gave you
Your sister I gave you
But they cannot save you.
I made you of cobalt skies
formed red hair and green eyes
Placed heat in your heart
and cool words on your lips.
Skipping madly and gently
I
wavered just slightly
to see where your heart lay
and found it
in mountains and sunshine.
Colluding and conspiring
infectious and inspiring
delightfully yours,
signed,
Creation.

(tetractys)
till
the soil
of my heart
turn it over
and peer into the newly exposed loam.
